The Greyhound is a British greyhound. The breed has an ancient history and was bred in Europe. Initially they were used for hunting and herding. Today, greyhounds are more often bred as companions and athletes. Greyhounds are smart, obedient, affectionate and good-natured.
These are elegant and beautiful dogs with long legs and an elongated muzzle.
The English Greyhound or Greyhound is the fastest dog. If we talk about hunting, they can easily keep up with hares, roe deer and deer. They can reach speeds of up to 67 km/h, but they are not durable - they cannot run for long. The name Greyhound directly translates to “gray hound.” Some researchers associate this etymology with the Old English word "greyhound" - "greyhound cricket". This is due to the fact that these dogs can jump high and far.
Today, greyhounds are rarely used for hunting. Greyhounds are athletes and loyal companions. Greyhounds are artistic, love attention, and learn tricks easily. Greyhounds perform well in coursing and agility. They can be used in canistherapy for their sensitivity and calm, good-natured nature.
Greyhound dogs are unpretentious, despite their large size, and get along well in city apartments. If they are well trained on walks, they behave calmly at home. They love to sleep on soft beds or sofas and prefer to be close to their owner.
The character and behavior of the English greyhound combine a tireless, active, predatory desire to catch up with prey and a lazy, comfort-loving disposition. At home, this dog prefers to lie back on a soft sofa and easily falls asleep in any situation. That's why British dog breeders call greyhounds "fast deckchairs."
These dogs are sociable and prefer strict hierarchical relationships and obedience to the leader. They perceive the family as a pack, and they choose one master to whom they obey. They treat strangers kindly, but do not always listen. Greyhounds are very affectionate and love to lick faces and sit on laps. They do not show aggression towards strangers and welcome guests. Therefore, the dog does not become a watchdog or protector. The only thing they can do is bark at strangers.
They love children, but only those with whom they can run and play. He is affectionate and patient with kids. However, they do not work as nannies or “herd” children. They are not aggressive and will simply go away and hide if a child disturbs them.
The English Greyhound is a beautiful hunting dog. It is suitable for hunters, athletes, tourists and other people with an active lifestyle. This is a faithful companion and tireless runner. There are usually no problems with breeding. All that is required is to give your pet due attention and train it correctly.
