The Icelandic Sheepdog is the indigenous breed of Iceland and the pride of the country. They are bred for herding and guarding livestock, but are also excellent companions. These are small, fluffy dogs belonging to the Spitz group. They are lively, cheerful, good-natured and loyal. They are easy to train, resilient and conscientiously perform their duties. The breed is very popular in its homeland and neighboring countries, but is not common in other regions. Owners leave only positive reviews about these dogs, but note that they have few negative qualities.
This dog is also known as the Icelandic Shepherd, Icelandic Spitz or Husky Shepherd. Their purpose is to herd and protect livestock, warn owners of danger and look for sheep that have strayed from the herd.

They make good guard dogs that carefully monitor their surroundings. Icelandic Shepherds are typically used to protect pets from birds of prey, and they can even see the sky. They bark a lot while working.

These dogs get along well with children and can become nannies or loyal friends for teenagers. Nowadays they are often kept as companions, but they make good athletes. They can also take part in the search for missing people. The breed is suitable for inexperienced breeders.
The Icelandic Sheepdog is a dog with a typical Spitz-like appearance. She has fluffy fur, a fox-like muzzle, triangular erect ears and a ringed tail. They are slightly smaller than average in size, males do not exceed 46 cm, and females are smaller and more graceful. Their body is strong and balanced, slightly elongated, and their weight ranges from 11 to 14 kg.
Icelandic dogs are faithful companions, family pets and reliable helpers on the farm. They are good-natured, smart and cheerful. Due to their energetic temperament, they are only suitable for active owners.
