The Russian piebald hound is a dog breed that combines the best qualities of two different breeds: English and Russian. It was bred to hunt hare, fox and other small animals.
When the dog is not hunting, it is calm, sometimes a little lazy and does not cause much trouble, but you need to get used to its antics. When the dog is not chasing forest creatures, he is not particularly active at home, preferring to save his energy for the next trip. In relation to the owner and family, the Russian Pygmy Hound is a friendly and balanced pointer. More precisely, almost a good boy, because the well-mannered behavior of an animal is often a cunning game for show in order to reduce the owner’s vigilance.

As a rule, representatives of this family make mediocre companions or pets. The breed prefers to show maximum independence in all matters and does not want to walk on a leash. For example, instead of pecking at forbidden food, the dog will prefer to steal it from the table and will not be embarrassed to perform this trick in front of the owner. Anglo-Russian hounds do not get along with cats, toy dogs, guinea pigs and other small pets. Like other four-legged hunters, the Russian hound sees small furry animals as just easy prey that needs to be caught as quickly as possible.

The Russian Hound is a natural leader and hunter, and is not at all territorial or paranoid. If you hope that this pet will not only collect prey, but also engage in security activities, then you are wasting your time. The Russian Hound does not have negative feelings towards strangers, and the most it can do when a stranger appears on the doorstep is to bark loudly and angrily.
