The Schiller Hound is an unusual working dog bred to hunt foxes and hares. They are rarely found outside the country and are mainly bred by hunters. A medium-sized dog, similar in appearance to a hound, with a black-and-white color.

They are affectionate, obedient and friendly and can live quietly in city apartments. However, they need work and exercise. A description of the characters, strengths and weaknesses of these dogs will help you learn more about the peculiarities of their maintenance. Schiller hounds are also called Schillerstövare. The name is associated with the name of the breeder Schiller, who wanted to get a universal hunting dog, adapted to work in the harsh climatic conditions of Sweden. Schillerstövare has excellent intuition and can recognize tracks in the snow. Schiller hounds are hardy, tolerate low temperatures, swim well and run very fast. They can pursue prey for a long time and prefer to work alone. Suitable for hunting hares, foxes and small fur-bearing animals. Having caught up with the prey, the dog does not attack, but calls its owner with a loud bark. The Schiller Hound can be used for search operations and sinological sports. They are excellent companions and family dogs.

Schiller has a balanced temperament. They are affectionate, obedient, peaceful and love children. However, they choose one master and remain faithful to him. Their strong hunting instincts can cause problems with other pets. With family members, Schiller hounds are friendly and affectionate, but independent in their behavior. They have territorial instincts, are suspicious of strangers and can act as guard dogs. With timely socialization, they become sociable and do not show aggression. They are smart, curious and easy to train. However, they have a strong desire to dominate, so upbringing should be done by a person with experience and a strong character.

With the right approach, the Schillerhound will quickly learn commands and obey them unquestioningly. Schillerhounds can be kept both in a house and in a city apartment. They are calm, silent and clean. However, maintaining a house does not create problems: they need to be walked for a long time and taken out into nature at least once a week. If they are not hunting, they need special training in dog parks, hidden object games, tracking and long-distance running. The Schillerhound is an excellent hunter's assistant, a loyal companion and a friendly family dog. They are affectionate, obedient and gentle, but require long walks and exercise.
