The Spanish Hound is one of the oldest hound breeds on the continent. It was bred in northern Spain to hunt hares and other small game. Now this breed is quite rare and is rarely found outside the country. This is an active, strong medium-sized dog. Temperamental, adventurous and resilient. They are well behaved and protective of their owners, but are not very social and do not make good companions. This is a service dog and is not suitable for inexperienced owners. Therefore, you should carefully study their strengths and weaknesses, character traits and upbringing.
The name of the breed "Spanish Hound" is an exact translation of the word sabueso espanol. That's why they call it sabueso espanol or simply sabeso. This is a skilled hunter of wild rabbits, easily recognizes their tracks and can work both alone and in a flock. It is also used for hunting other small animals. In pursuit, the sabeso is bold, aggressive and persistent towards the beast.

They have an excellent sense of smell, are tireless and adapt well to unfavorable conditions. They can work as rescuers, police sniffers and home defense.
Spanish Hounds are working dogs with strong hunting instincts. They are not recommended to be kept in an apartment or as pets.
The Spanish Hound is a natural rabbit hunter and does not even require much training. At work, they are adventurous, tenacious, independent and goal-oriented. However, at home they are very calm and balanced. They are friendly with their owners and do not single out anyone for special treatment. They get along well with children, but do not tolerate rough treatment.

These dogs do not like noisy games; they do not require constant communication and human attention. They are independent, keep their distance and try to avoid contact. However, Spanish hounds are loyal and, if necessary, ready to defend their owner. They are suspicious of strangers, but can serve as a guard dog. They are friendly only to dogs of other domestic animals, the rest are perceived as prey.

The Spanish Hound requires early socialization and proper training. Their nature is quite stubborn and difficult to train, making them unsuitable for novice dog owners. This is not a service dog and will not obey any commands. She is used to making her own decisions and is often stubborn.

Training must be strict and consistent, it is important to be patient and not allow the dog to become complacent. Spanish Hounds can quickly lose control and become unruly.
