The Tree Coon Hound is a rare breed bred in the United States to hunt raccoons and possums. It is not officially recognized and is little known outside the country. The breed is smart, brave and energetic. They are friendly and affectionate and make excellent companions for active owners. However, before you get a dog of this breed, you need to know the pros and cons of owning one.
Dogs of this breed are also called coonhounds or walking hounds." Coonhound" translates to "raccoon-like," but this name refers to six breeds developed in the United States. A special feature of all raccoon dogs is that they can hunt animals that are active at night and hide in trees, such as raccoons and opossums.
These dogs can work alone or in a pack and are able to follow a scent for a long time in swamps and rough terrain. Usually, having discovered prey hidden in the trees, dogs grab the trunk with their paws and call their owner with a loud bark.
